My bet is that the iPhone will win this fight…

Back in March, I wrote about the increasingly personal fight between Steven P. Jobs, the Apple chief executive, and Eric E. Schmidt, his Google counterpart. In it, I quoted Mr. Jobs saying: “Make no mistake: Google wants to kill the iPhone. We won’t let them.”

Six months later, there are no indications that Google is killing the iPhone. But there is no doubt that the iPhone has a serious fight on its hands. Phones powered by Google’s Android operating system are now the most popular among smartphones in the United States, according to new data released by Nielsen.
