The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration declared the May 22 tornado that scythed a path through Joplin, MO “devastating” assigning it the maximum level of intensity EF-5. It is the deadliest since 1950, when modern record keeping started, and 8th in recorded history of the United states. The tornado scale (enhanced Fujita) describes EF-5 as “incredible,” being capable of collapsing concrete walls and blowing completely away strong frame houses.
