Great NPR story on the only reasonable and cheap means of transportation in Congo: a river barge that resembles Noah’s Ark.

The nearly 3,000-mile Congo River is the backbone of one of Africa’s poorest and most conflict-ridden countries. It supplies food and livelihood for the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the way of life along the water route in many ways mirrors Congo’s checkered fortunes.

Assistant Vice President for Partnerships in Strategic Defense Innnovation and Professor of Communication at Purdue University, Director of the FORCES initiative leads research teams that study the relationship between technological and social systems using big data, simulation, and mapping approaches.
