I Think

BoilerSpace.com? BoilerPlace.com?

I thought of two other possible domains for us to use that I feel would be more recognizable than www.peteslist.org. boilerspace.com and boilerplace.com are both available (as are purdoings.com, purdueings.com, and purduesnews.com).

I really like so many of the ideas that have been offered here. I would like to go back to one of the concepts we touched upon when this topic was first brought up a few weeks ago. We mentioned the possibility of a section in which students could comment on specific courses including content, evaluation of content and instruction, how the class would be applicable to a variety of curricula, difficulty of the course, etc. I find the descriptions on Purdue’s site to be lacking in substance for one, and in comprehensibility for another. We could write about the courses without the usual academicspeak.

I would like for us to find a way to keep the student comments civil. I’m not looking for censorship at all. I would just hate to see comments such as “So-and-So’s pizza tastes like s_ _ t.” Should this bother me? Does it bother anyone else?

  1. I’m not bothered. I think more time is spent worrying about moderating communities than is actually required to moderate communities.

  2. Haven’t we learned, Susie that the community will monitor itself? I mean, if people want to make comments in this manner then the community will accept it or not and surely let them know.
