Fan culture

I have been reading JenkinsConvergence Culture and I ran into this jungle of Star Wars fan movies: http://www.theforce.net. Noteworthy (according to Jenkins): Evan Mather Although I’ve known of this genre for some time I never realized how many sites and amateur creators there are (check out http://www.theforce.net) and most importantly what significant resources have the fans invested in them. I am unpersuaded that the movies, as movies, are worth much, even if we grant them the necessary extenuating circumstances of poverty, but I am impressed by the enormous fan personal engagement. This strengthens my belief, which I share with Weinberger, that the web has become a major vehicle for personal meaning. In other words, that the web has become a space for testing and extending in a very existentialist manner a renewed sense of social/individual worth. Needless to say, renewed in a post-religious sense.
