YouTube beefs up API Offerings

YouTube has added more social features to it’s API.  Now users can tag favorite videos, make comments, and upload videos.  Like some other sites out there like Amazon, YouTube hopes that there will now be an influx of applicaitons or sites that start using their API offerings and start mixing it up with their activity feeds.

As with all API services, there are some concerns over privacy.  The solution will sit with external applications and sites.  All user activity can be customzied by each user, diminishing any concerns.  It will be interesting to see what kind of applications sprout from these new features.  With the popularity of Twitter growing daily, I can easily see an app like TweetDeck or Twiterlator surfacing that is just for YouTube videos.  Might be something that would increase YouTube usage.  Eventually, we’ll be able to “feed” just about anything to our personal sites or favorite social networking site.  YouTube has gotten into a little later than expected, however I’m gald to see that they finally see the impending value.
