Manahattanhenge: One of the two days a year when the setting sun can be seen along east west streets in New York City

Just like at Stonehenge. the sun only sets twice a year in such a way as to be seen from the eastern end of the numbered streets that run East – West. New Yorkers rejoice:

Scores took to Manhattan‘s streets Tuesday to gaze in wonder at “Manhattanhenge,” the twice a year occurence when the sun aligns east-west along the skyscraper-lined streets.

“I never saw the sun set until today. Today was my first sunset. I just never thought to look,” said Shawna Wallace, a security guard at the Con Ed power plant, who watched through a gate on Ave. C that looked directly down 14th St.
