Both Nebraska nuclear power plants have been partially covered by the waters of the 2011 flood. The Fort Calhoun Nuclear plant came under threat after a protection berm collapsed and a turbine room was inundated. At the time of the incident the reactors had been deactivated for several months for refueling.
The Cooper nuclear plant is less threatened by the floods.
A recent assessment of the nuclear plant earthquake risk put both Nebraska plants in a small risk category.
If the plants survive the incidents without major negative consequences, the Fukushima accident panick might be alleviated to a certain extent.
