New York Times reports that a successful YouTube broadcaster with 1,000,000 subscribers to multiple channels, who posts at least 20 new video segments a week may expect a little bit more than 100,000 dollars a year in revenue. This is about $10 a head. The revenue is mostly Google AdWords, which only flows when a subscriber actually clicks on an ad overlaid on top of your clips. However, this does is not represent the net income of the broadcaster, who has to pay for equipment, some editing, and at least a minimal staff. She could probably count, at the very best, on $50,000 before taxes. This is a pittance, considering the fact that her audience is, after all, in the hundreds of thousands….
